Tammy H. Kom - Attorney
Ms. Kom graduated in 2001 from Loyola University New Orleans with a degree in English Writing and a minor in Women’s Studies. After teaching students from pre-school through the high school level in both the private sector and within the Orleans Parish Public School System, Ms. Kom joined Young Audiences of Louisiana, an arts-in-education non-profit organization, where she managed comprehensive, arts-based afterschool and summer programs in low-income public schools for five years. Ms. Kom decided to pursue a law degree after witnessing first-hand the challenges disenfranchised students face.
Ms. Kom graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. During law school, she worked with Partnership for Children’s Rights, where she litigated IDEA cases on behalf of low-income students with disabilities in New York City. After law school, Ms. Kom and her husband, David, returned to his home state of North Carolina to be closer to family. Ms. Kom joined Gahagan Law in November 2014, so she could continue her work helping students defend their right to a free appropriate public education.
Ms. Kom founded LSCNC in July 2015 to expand educational legal services across the state of North Carolina.
